37th Annual HUMPA PICNIC !

Sunday, September 26, 2010

Big Fun!Now is the time to make your reservation for the 37th Annual Humpa Picnic.

Now that the July Picnic is behind us, we can look forward to the Annual Humpa Picnic on September 26. This year is our 37th. You have 2 months to get your reservation in. (see below)

You can expect a wonderful day of enjoying our BMWs, sharing with friends old and new, engaging in hiking, horseshoes, volley ball or just sitting around with a glass of Oktoberfest beer until it is time for the old fashioned German feast we have come to love for all these many years! What’s not to like? There is a nice playground for the young future Bimmerphiles, two ponds for watching frogs and birds, a wonderful pavillion, kitchen and restrooms.

humpaThe park is ours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. although it is open from dawn to dusk. We usually gather for snacks around 11 a.m. and start the grill before noon. There is always food to spare since your CVC provides the best wursts, dogs and burgers, bread and rolls, condiments, drinks and nibbles. Tony’s Imported Auto Service will provide the Oktoberfest beer. YOU must BRING A SALAD OR A DESERT to complete the meal. Barbara will make a vat of her famous German Kraut. John Fouts will probably bring his awesome Shady Glen Cole slaw. If the Baszturas are not globe trotting, they may bring Spaetzle. I know at least one well known brownie baker. There will also be fabulous deserts and at least one or two surprises. Please let Barbara or John Bisset know what you will contribute to the feast.

After the feast, there will be door prizes, usually enough for everyone. Local businesses and your CVC Chapter are the providers. A list of door prizes ant their contributors will be listed at the pavilion. Members may also contribute a prize. I can recall some very nice mums, baskets of fruit and certificates for babysitting or a special dessert.

This event is FREE to you, but we request that you contribute $5.00 per adult to our CVC Charity CT ALS in memory of out great friend, past President and long time board member, Marshall Wilson, who contributed so much to our enjoyment of this event and many others. You may contribute as much as you like. ALS is a killer disease which deserves to be beaten. CT ALS will provide some literature and bracelets to us.

See below for details and directions.

The Humpa is one of the best events in our annual calendar. As you can tell by number 37, this event has a long and wonderful history. The first one was in a member’s back yard and featured beautiful fruit topped pastries made by hand in the true German tradition in addition to the traditional wursts.

The Williams Park Pavillion is the perfect venue for this picnic. We have plenty of tables with benches, cover if it should rain, a fireplace should it get cold, complete kitchen and restrooms. In addition the park itself offers several walking trails and 2 ponds, a children’s playground, volleyball and horseshoes. Early comers will be able to park near the pavilion where we can all enjoy BMW Beauty and CVC comaraderie.

There will be DOOR PRIZES courtesy of New Country BMW, Detail Best, Performance Automotive, Inc and Your CVC. If you would like to contribute a door prize contact Tim Parker or John Bisset.

The Humpa is free in 2010. Participants are asked to contribute $5.00/per adult to CT ALS. Donate more if you can. We can’t think of a better person to honor or a more deserving organization!
